My Dear Parish Family,

On Monday, July 17th, we begin to pray as a parish family our nine-day novena to our Patroness, Saint Anne. There are many versions of this novena that are available. Perhaps you have a favorite that you have been praying for many years. If this is the first time you are praying the novena, I have printed the version that is in the prayer book used by the seminarians at the North American College in Rome. There are also copies of the novena available in the back of the church. Please be sure to take the time each day to pray this powerful novena. Pray for your own intentions of course, but also pray that our precious Saint Anne will watch over and protect our parish family. May she appeal to her daughter and to her grandson on our behalf. Through her intercession, may we grow ever closer in love for God, for Our Lord Jesus Christ, for their Most Holy Spirit, for our Blessed Mother Mary, and for Saint Anne herself. May our love for them show forth and bear much good fruit in our love and care for one another!

Our parish family laid to rest one of our dear Waterford parishioners this past Monday. + Betty Duggan came on the bus to Mass with the other residents not knowing anything about our parish. About five minutes later, she was in love with all of you! She couldn’t stop talking about how loving and welcoming all of you were, and how you made her feel right at home from that very first day. Betty has been on hospice for the past month. Elaine and I had the grace of visiting her at the time she was first admitted. She talked for an hour and a half, not about herself, but once again about how much she loved Saint Anne. Her nephew, Pastor Jim Hearne, one of my former students from Saint Joseph Seminary, gave a wonderful portrait of his Aunt Betty at the funeral Mass. We will miss her smiling face, but we know that we have a new intercessor for our parish family in God’s Kingdom!

Many thanks to everyone who volunteered as part of our outreach ministry on last week’s Service Saturday and on this past Wednesday’s visit to Pinecrest Nursing Home. Our Service Saturday volunteers made our church and kitchen cleaner than clean, and thanks to Dan Lippe, Jack and Max Dunlavy, Father Sweeney Hall looks brand new with a fresh coat of paint. The visit to Pinecrest was highlighted by a magic show by our own Chuck Gruberman. Chuck now lives in Michigan, but still comes to be with us here at Saint Anne whenever he can. Many thanks to Chuck for making this special trip to entertain the residents. You are the greatest!

Please see page five for more information about our upcoming Feast Day celebration on Sunday, July 23rd, and page six for our Vacation Bible School which begins on July 31st! Saint Anne, pray for us!

In God's Love, your friend and brother,

Father Ralph
